DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE commissions its first photovoltaic plant

After DREWSEN SPEZIALPAPIERE succeeded in taking the first step towards regenerative energy supply with the purchase of three wind turbines in July of this year, the investment in a 1.4 megawatt peak photovoltaic plant is now the next step.

In mid-December 2022, DREWSEN commissioned its first free-standing plant on a former brownfield site in the immediate vicinity of the factory. Within 2 months, 3,590 solar modules were installed over an area of 16,000 m². With an expected electricity production of almost 1,300,000 kWh per year, they cover about one eighth of the external electricity demand in a renewable and climate-friendly way. The investment sum for this plant amounts to €1 million.

In total, DREWSEN plans to invest approximately €100 million over the next few years in order to gradually move away from fossil fuels. By 2030, 80% of the energy demand should already have been converted to regenerative alternatives. Together with representatives of local government and public authorities, DREWSEN is working intensively to become less dependent on fossil fuels and to achieve the important goal of climate neutrality by 2045.

"We are convinced that we are on the right track to be able to produce sustainable papers that replace plastic, for example, with renewable and locally generated energy." reports Dr Matthias Rauhut, CEO of DREWSEN.
